Romans 8:12 “So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.”
Dear CBC Family,
This email is a day late but that is due to prayerful consideration about what to share with you. There is so much on the horizon, both for the country and our church, it can scarcely fit into a single email. I will address a couple of the bigger items here.
With the upcoming election on November 3rd there is hardly a shortage of opinions on the issues. That said, I want to quickly say that for a Christian they need to vote with the party that best stands with the scripture. Not all the issues are of equal value nor moral worth. There is a difference between the moral travesty of abortion and one’s view on the economy. They are not equal in God’s sight. And that is just the beginning. This is such an important matter that I will make a video this week and post on the FB page if you would like to consider with me what it means to stand with the truth. I expect no shortage of controversy but sometimes things just need to be said.
We are moving ahead with the implementation of the new by-laws. Though the new board will not be put in place officially until after the annual business meeting in January there is a lot of work to do now. I will try and keep you all updated on the progress and I believe this will provide a level of accountability and protection the church has never had previously.
The two positions that you will be voting on are treasurer and secretary. These are legal, corporate positions required by the state of California for any business. The candidate will serve in this capacity for two years. Start praying and thinking about who you feel would be a qualified. They must meet the qualifications of a deacon as well as have the skillset required for the office.
The business board will have approximately 6 members consisting of the CEO, treasurer, secretary, non-staff elders and maybe one or two other deacons. Their role is the business end of things. The elders will be on that board but also have their own group that has exclusive oversight of ministry and direction and all things spiritual. If you have any questions please come to the source and ask Lon or myself.
This weekend we will be, guess where…..Romans 8. The sermon is titled “Living by the Spirit part 4” coming right out of verse 12 “So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.” When we become Christians we often focus on freedom, and rightly so, but sometimes miss out on the fact we are under obligation. This verse reminds us of what that is, what that looks like, and how the life of the Spirit in us brings all that to pass in a way that honors God and gives us great joy. I know you will be encouraged by it so plan on coming on Sunday at 5:00 PM or just go online any time after 5:00 PM on Saturday when we post the recorded version.
Thank you for the prayers and support for the church and the people. I pray with thanks to God for each of you often repeating the words of Paul in Colossians 1 “I thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when I pray for you, since I hear of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven.” You guys are loved and held in high esteem!
Blessings to you my family and friends,
