Cope or Conquer?

Dear CBC Family,

Romans 8:35,37: Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? … No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (ESV)

With all that’s been going on in the world, not to mention the normal day-to-day stuff that life serves up, many are only just getting by, struggling to cope. But what if life is about more than just getting by, more than just coping?

I probably have no idea what’s going on in your life at the moment – the good, the bad or even the downright ugly. But you do. And God does. And you can be certain that the devil does too, as he seeks to exploit your weaknesses to draw you away from God and plant thoughts in your head that will exalt themselves against the knowledge of God.

Whenever you are struggling, when the devil’s playing hell with your emotions, it does feel as though God is drifting farther and farther away from you. But if you ever find yourself in that place, then it’s time for a completely different way of looking at your predicament! As you know, feelings are fickle! They are often completely divorced from objective reality. And, the objective reality of your situation is this:

Romans 8:35,37 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? … No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (ESV)

God’s love is so incredibly powerful, so deep, so strong, so faithful for His people that nothing – nothing – can separate you from the love of Christ. Not tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword. Nothing!

And because of that great love, He wants you to conquer your emotions, thoughts, fears and even your predicament – whatever it is that ails or afflicts you. He does not want you to merely learn to cope. In fact, the objective reality is that you are more than a conqueror through Him who loves you.

The big issue in our text today is am I going to let God’s thoughts replace Satan’s lies? According to God, we are not just conquerors, but, MORE than conquerors! So before you start asking God to help you cope…..ask Him to help you to conquer! That is word we could all use on this day!

Join us this weekend in a very special 5th Sunday service of a parable! I won’t tell you which one but it’s good 😊

Blessings,
Pastor Scott
